How to change port remote desktop connection
You need to change the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) port from the default, which is 3389, to a non-standard one to improve security by making your system less vulnerable to automated attacks
Step 1: Change the port in the registry
Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp.
In the right-hand pane, double-click on PortNumber.
In the pop-up window, select the "Decimal" base.
Enter your new port number (e.g., 3390) and click "OK".
Close the Registry Edito
Step 2: Open the new port in the firewall
Open "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security".
Go to "Inbound Rules" and click "New Rule...".
Select "Port" and click "Next".
Choose "TCP" and enter your new port number in the "Specific local ports" field, then click "Next".
Select "Allow the connection" and click "Next".
Choose when the rule applies (Domain, Private, Public) and click "Next".
Give the rule a name (e.g., "RDP port 3390") and click "Finish".
Step 3: Restart and connect
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
To connect, you will need to specify the new port. In the Remote Desktop Connection client, enter the IP address or computer name followed by a colon and the new port number (e.g., 192.168.1.100:3390)
